Construction & Materials
Where are Kodiak Saunas built?
All Kodiak Saunas are built in Montreal, Canada. By sourcing our cedar, glass, and heaters locally, we support the community, provide better product support, and deliver faster lead times.
What type of wood is used?
We use Western Red Cedar, chosen for its natural resistance to moisture, heat, and decay—making it one of the best woods for sauna construction. We offer standard 1-inch boards as well as premium 1.5-inch boards.
Is the wood treated for outdoor use?
Yes. Our saunas come pre-stained, so you won’t need to stain them for 3+ years.
Do these saunas come pre-assembled or in kits?
Our saunas come fully assembled and are delivered using a variety of methods to suit each customer’s needs. We currently do not offer assembly kits or build-it-yourself options.
Heater & Heating Options
What heater types are available?
We offer wood-burning and electric stove options, including brands like Harvia, Homecraft, and HUUM.
How long does it take to heat up?
Heating time varies by model and outside temperature but typically ranges from 40 minutes to 1 hour. During winter, expect up to 1.5 Hours.
What is the recommended amperage for electric heaters?
All our electric heaters are 240V and range from 30–50AMP, depending on the model.
Can the heaters handle cold climates?
Yes. Our stoves are built to handle cold winters with no problem.
Installation & Placement
Does it require a concrete pad or special foundation?
We recommend a solid, level, and well-drained surface. Suitable base options include:
- 4–6 inch crushed gravel pad with patio stones or pavers (excellent drainage and stability)
- Concrete pad (perfectly level and permanent)
- Wood deck platform (stable and elevated foundation)
Do I need a permit for a sauna?
In most regions, outbuildings under ~100 sq. ft. do not require a building permit. It is the customer’s responsibility to confirm compliance with all local laws.
Delivery and Installation
Delivery costs vary depending on property access. A minimum clearance of 8 feet is typically required; otherwise, a crane or build-on-site option may be necessary.
Electrical Requirements
Our heaters run on 240 volts, ranging from 6KW to 9KW (30AMP–50AMP). Installation requires a certified electrician.
Comfort & Customization
Can I customize the size and features of my sauna?
Yes! You can choose the size, heater type, windows, backrests, flat floor, and other accessories to match your space and preferences.
How many people can fit comfortably?
Our saunas come in various sizes, from 2-person compact models to larger 6–8 person units.
Maintenance & Longevity
How do I maintain my sauna?
- Wipe benches and walls regularly.
- Ventilate after each use.
- Inspect heaters and wiring.
- Sand rough wood as needed.
- Check metal bands and tighten using the adjustment points if necessary.
- Treat outdoor wood as required.
How long will the sauna last with normal use?
With proper care, a Kodiak Sauna can last 15+ years.
